Congratulations to Hanh Nguyen for succesfully passing her viva on December 14th! Her other supervisor, Lyndsey Nickels, was tucked up in bed on the other side of the world as it was 4am in Sydney.

Congratulations to Kaimook for winning another award at the “
Thai Student Academic Conference (TSAC2018, 7th)” held in Brussels, under the theme “Bridging Academic Research and Practical Implication: Knowledge Creation and Transferring”, organised by the Ministry of Science and Technology, the Office of Civil Service Commission, and the Office of Science and Technology, Royal Thai Embassy, Brussels. We are so proud!


The year started with another exciting winterschool in Bresanone and Rovereto in January . We first attended the European Workshop on Cognitive Neuropsychology in Bressanone and then presented the progress on our projects at CIMEC in Rovereto.



In September, we welcomed a new cohort at the summerschool in Potsdam! So excited to have you here! And the second year students are looking so much more experienced already :)


In May, Katalin Tamasi successfully defended her thesis at the University of Potsdam 
[link]. Congratulations Kata! She is currently a postdoc at the Singapore University of Technology and Design. 

In March, Anastasia Linnik successfully graduated at Potsdam University
[link]. Congratulations!

We started the year with an exciting “winter”school in Sydney during February.



Two new associate partners joined IDEALAB: (1) Université de Genève, Suisse and (2) National University of Singapore.

In September we welcomed the new cohort during the summerschool in Potsdam [link].

Congratulations to Oksana Lyalka for successfully defending her thesis in Newcastle on the 30th of November of 2016! [link].

On the 18th of March Leigh Fernandez defended her thesis at Potsdam University [link]. Congratulations!

This year, we started to release a steady stream of graduates. Congratulations on all the appointments and best of luck with your next career move!

Seckin Arslan became a Postdoctoral Researcher at the Potsdam Research Institute for Multilingualism (PRIM) at the University of Potsdam.

Vânia de Aguiar accepted a permanent position of Assistant Professorship of Clinical Speech and Language Pathology at Trinity College Dublin (School of Linguistic, Speech and Communication Sciences, Department of Clinical Speech and Language Studies).

Leigh Fernandez became a Postdoctoral Researcher (wissenschaftliche Mitarbeiterin) at the Psycholinguistics and Language Development Group of the University of Kaiserslautern, starting in October.

Trudy Krajenbrink currently works as a Research Assistant at the ARC Centre of Excellence in Cognition and its Disorders (CCD) at Macquarie University. Besides, she tutors for an undergraduate course in Cognitive Science. She will start a new project at CCD in 2016, investigating spelling impairments and treatment for primary progressive aphasia (PPA).

Katharina Nimz will start in a lecturer position at the University of Bielefeld in December.

Seckin Arslan was rewarded the prize for the best student poster (out of around 100!) at the 33rd Meeting of European Workshop on Cognitive Neuropsychology in Bressanone, Italy. The poster can be seen here [link].

We are pleased to announce that the first IDEALAB joint degrees have been awarded to Laura Bos and Rimke Groenewold on January 22nd!

Also on the 8th of December
Katharina Nimz was the first IDEALAB student based at Potsdam University to defend her thesis.

Laura S. Bos was appointed to be a member of the European Master in Law and Economics research group at Erasmus University Rotterdam.

Rimke Groenewold became a study advisor in Linguistics and a Platform coordinator of AfasieNet at the University of Groningen.
